Protective rust patina over time

Corten steel (weathering steel) naturally develops a protective oxide layer when exposed to weather.

This change happens in stages:

  • Newly installed → Dark gray, raw steel surface.
  • After a few weeks/months → Starts forming light orange-brown rust streaks.
  • 6–12 months → A more even, rich orange-brown patina develops.
  • Several years → Surface darkens into deep brown or purple tones, with a stable protective layer that prevents deeper corrosion.
  • Ignis is made of 3 mm corten steel it will naturally develop a protective rust patina over time. 
  • This is a normal feature that enhances durability and uniqueness.​
  • Do not paint or coat the steel – the patina is part of the design.

Usage as a Firepit & Grill

Cooking

  • Use the included grill grate for cooking.
  • Always preheat the grate before placing food.
  • Use long-handled grilling tools to avoid burns.

After cooking

  • After cooking, allow the grate and unit to cool fully before cleaning or moving
  • Remove ashes only after the unit has cooled completely
  • Use a metal container to collect and dispose of ashes safely

Place Ignis on level ground to ensure stability.

Safety

  • Do not use indoors, in garages, tents, or other enclosed areas. Risk of fire, carbon monoxide poisoning, or injury.
  • Never leave the fire unattended. Always ensure the fire is fully extinguished before leaving the unit.
  • Keep children and pets at a safe distance while Ignis is in use or still hot.
  • Do not touch the unit while in use – surfaces become extremely hot. Use protective gloves and tools when handling.
  • Use only dry firewood or charcoal. Do not burn trash, plastics, treated wood, or flammable liquids.
